A new report from Freedonia indicated the demand for HVAC equipment is projected to rise 6.9 percent a year for the next four years in the U.S.
Due to increased interest in energy initiatives on behalf of the government and investors, the need for advanced HVAC equipment is stronger than ever. As companies continue to shift toward energy-efficient products, they will also look to replace their existing HVAC systems with newer models to capitalize on savings.
In addition, the report noted higher levels of business spending and new construction will drive demand for new HVAC products as well as investments in replacements. With new commercial buildings being constructed, more advanced HVAC systems will likely be installed. On the other hand, existing structures will have to be outfitted with replacement parts, but companies will likely choose not to overhaul their entire HVAC systems because of it being such a large investment.
But with tax incentives both at the federal and state level, and increasing economic pressure to reduce energy costs, companies in the private sector are better positioned to move closer to their sustainability goals than ever before.
While businesses pursue unique HVAC solutions, there may be a general shift in the way of thinking regarding energy costs, Energy Manager Today reported. The traditional model of servicing HVAC equipment relied on the “run to fail” approach, in which business simply used the same HVAC parts for as long as possible until the system eventually gave out.
While this saved money on replacement and repair costs in the short term, it’s not necessarily a sustainable solution. However, facilities managers now are more strongly pushing for a proactive approach to working with HVAC equipment. Using technology to identify problems as they arise, then installing replacement parts immediately, is more cost-effective for businesses and helps HVAC units last longer.
Each malfunction causes the system to use more energy and break down faster. But by replacing poor-performing parts, the unit is effectively revitalized.
