MICROCHANNEL COIL CONVERSION
SUPPORT AND DOCUMENTS REQUEST A CUSTOM QUOTE
Microchannel Coil is a specialty coil designed based on automotive technology. It’s made of flat tubes and waved fins. Both the tubes and the fins are made of aluminum. Several types of coils, including condenser and evaporator coils, can be made using the design.
Although aluminum microchannel coils have better heat transfer, are smaller and resistant to corrosion, but have a high rate of failure, high rate of leaks, and are notoriously hard to fix. If an aluminum-made coil gets damaged the repair would involve special materials, take a long time, and contractors are usually unable to perform it on site.
For a more reliable and efficient HVAC system, upgrade your all-aluminum microchannel coil to a copper tube, or aluminum fin coil. Converting to a copper tube, an aluminum fin coil is an efficient, cost-effective way to address the issues that are typical to this type of coil. Upgrading will make your system more reliable and easier to service.
Copper has a higher heat transfer coefficient than aluminum, making copper a better choice for transferring excess heat in the coils to avoid overheating and malfunctioning of air conditioning units. Copper’s tensile strength is approximately 40% higher than that of aluminum and has a lower thermal expansion coefficient, meaning that copper will get damaged or break less often than aluminum, and when a copper-tubed coil is damaged in the field, it’s easy and economical to repair.
If your aluminum microchannel coil is damaged or corroded, or if your AC has been losing cooling capacity, consider microchannel coil replacement from Rahn Industries. We can replace your damaged aluminum microchannel with brand new copper tubes. The process will extend the life expectancy of your HVAC unit, as well as increase the operational efficiency of the coils.
